After working as the Marketing Manager at Martek Marine for over 4 years, I decided to set up my own content marketing agency in 2020. 10X Marketing now work with wide a range of clients, but we’re particularly interested in working with ocean economy businesses. We aim to help become more digitalised and generate more leads using content marketing strategies.

How did you find out about and what made you choose the maritime sector?

After studing an International Business degree, I specialised down in global marketing. Working in the maritime sector allowed me to manage global marketing campaigns. It allowed me to learn how to adapt marketing towards different cultures and companies.  

Who has been the most important person to you in your maritime career so far?

Paul Luen who was the CEO at Martek Marine offered me some amazing opportunities including launching a new drone technology into the superyacht market, managing exhibitions across the world and visiting our Singapore office. He really made me realise how behind the maritime industry was at marketing and how we at Martek could make a massive noise.

What have you found most challenging in your maritime career so far, and how did you address it?

At the beginning it was understanding industry words such as vessel. I honestly had no idea what this even was for the first few weeks as I’ve only ever heard “ship” before. So learning all the jargon and how vessels actually operate. Knowing how our products could help certain pain points.


What does a typical day at work look like?

Now I have my own marketing agency, my days are very varied. However, I speak with clients all over the world and create educational, emotive and entertaining content marketing strategies. We manage a lot of social media accounts, email marketing and lead magnet development. I also love engaging and connecting with new people on LinkedIn.


What networks do you belong to that support your work

I now support OESMA with their marketing and keep up to date with the industry through Lloyds Register and the Maritime societies including IMO.


What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

In my spare time I love working on my personal development. Whether its reading a new book, listening to a podcast or working on my health & fitness. It’s really important to get that down time and prioritise self care to make sure you’re in the best mindset.
