Sustainable Marketing Consultant
How did you find out about and what made you choose the maritime sector?
I love the sea. I love boats. I couldn’t believe there was an industry that meant I could work doing what I love.
Who has been the most important person to you in your maritime career so far?
Simon Boulding, Head of Sunsail UK. His energy and passion and knowledge in how to make a maritime business really successful is second to none.
What have you found most challenging in your maritime career so far, and how did you address it?
The gender inequality and the lack of knowledge in marketing. I worked 10 times harder to prove my worth ensuring females were part of every major discussion both inside and outside the company (gender equality) and I put myself forwards for some British Marine committees to start driving the marketing agenda from the inside. I eventually became Chair of the British Marine Sailing Committee.
What does a typical day at work look like?
6.30am – get up and do yoga for 30 minutes.
8am – 15 minutes on LinkedIn catching up with all the sustainable news and 15 minutes on different news sites
8.30 – 1 – I have a number of clients in varying industries as well as marine so my conversations can go from investment to shipping in the space of 5 minutes. Plus what I do for each area can vary from partnership programmes to event activation to branding strategy. It keeps me on my toes but it also allows me to keep a much broader view on things.
1-2 – lunch and a run or cycle to have a break
2 – 6/7pm – more of my diverse work schedule
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Yacht racing, cruising, kitesurfing, swimming, tennis, cycling, yoga…..I’m pretty active but I do love silversmithing as well!
